Yankees Reach Deal with Jeter

All smiles...for now

The New York Yankees reached a 3 year deal with veteren shortstop Derek Jeter at the end of this week after something like 5 hours of deliberation. I’m not surprised at all as i didnt really buy the theory’s that he would sign with someone else, especially not the Red Sox.

Overrated he may be, and this last season was his worst ever, but he’s an icon baseball, no less for New York. And there is no way the Yankees were gonna let that go. But i do think that the tension that arose from these meetings did potentially sour the relationship between the star and the franchise for the future. So don’t be surprised if a Brett Favre lite situation comes out of New York. I could be wrong, i hope i am. But the Yankees may be the only franchise with a bigger ego than its stars, and that pride was tested publicly with Jeter’s demands which were not all revealed. Should be an interesting offseason and how he performs next season will be scrutinized even more closely than usual in New York.
